Another Modest Gain in May
Another modest gain in May posted, according to the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Small Business Optimism Index. Yet at 90.5, the index remains far below its 50-year average of 98. Uncertainty surrounding expectations for economic growth and interest rates appears to be weighing on small businesses.
US Raw Steel Production Down from Previous Week
In the week ending June 8, 2024, US raw steel production was 1,716,000 net tons at an ACUR of 77.3 percent, down 1.5 percent from the previous week ending June 1, 2024.
Adjusted year-to-date production through June 8, 2024 was 38,790,000 net tons at an ACUR of 76.4 percent.
US Drill Rigs Running Down 6 from Previous Week
There were 594 drill rigs running in the US last week, down six rigs from the previous week, which is down 101 rigs from one year ago. Meanwhile, Canadian drillers added fifteen rigs, to 143, up seven rigs from one year ago.
Consumer Price Index Unchanged in May
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for All Urban Consumers was unchanged in May on a seasonally adjusted basis, after rising 0.3 percent in April. Over the last twelve months, the all items index increased 3.3 percent before seasonal adjustment.

I am half paying attention to the trial of Hunter Biden. You know what? This a just a distraction from the real crime of influence peddling, inherent to Joe Biden’s fifty years of scamming the government and the American people. We know Hunter made millions of dollars dealing with Burisma in Ukraine. We know Hunter received several million dollars from the mayor of Moscow, we know money has changed hands with Chinese companies. The list goes on and on, and we also know Joe Biden was aware of all of it, his brother Jim was heavily involved, money was transferred to at least nine different family members. The family formed 20 limited liability corporations (LLC) to launder money. How do we know that? None of them had a product. They made nothing and they sold nothing (except the Biden name). So, the gun charge is, again, a distraction. The Democrats believe Americans are too stupid to see through this charade. Most of us are NOT. The fact that this criminal activity is likely to go unpunished, with no one being held accountable, is a travesty of justice, a blatant prostitution of our justice system. The Democrats keep bleating “No one is above the law!” unless, of course, it is one of them.
It appears the Dems are fearful that Trump will jail liberals if he is elected president. I am not advocating revenge, though it is more than warranted. My question is, what would be different about that in light of what the Democrats have been doing the past four years?
