New home sales jumped during August
New home sales jumped and surprised to the upside, jumping 20.5% during August. The surge reflects slightly lower mortgage rates and an increase in buildings offering buyer incentives.
US raw steel production down from previous week
In the week ending September 20,2025, US raw steel production was 1,754,000 net tons at an ACUR of 77.4 percent, down 0.6 percent from the previous week ending September 13, 2025.
Adjusted YTD production through September 20, 2025 was 64,979,000 net tons at an ACUR of 77.0 percent.
Manufacturing activity softened again in September
The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond released its Fifth District Survey of Manufacturing Activity results and reports manufacturing activity softened again in September, according to the survey results. The composite manufacturing index fell to -17 in September from -7 in August. All three of its component indexes decreased.
CFNAI increased in August
The Chicago Fed National Activity Index (CFNAI) increased to -0.12 in August from -0.28 in July, three of the four broad categories of indicators used to construct the index increased from July, but three categories made negative contributions in August. The index’s three-month moving average, CFNAI-MA3, increased to -0.18 in August from -0.20 in July.
US drill rigs running up from previous week
There were 542 drill rigs running in the US last week, up three rigs from the previous week, down 46 rigs from one-year ago. Canadian drillers also added the rigs, to 189, down 22 rigs from one year ago.
GDP revised upward to 3.8%
The third and final estimate of second quarter GDP has been revised upward, to 3.8 percent, against the consensus of 3.3%. We need to rethink GDP as the ultimate measure of a nation’s economic health. Real final sales to private domestic purchasers climbed to 2.9%, after the initial read of 1.2%.

Kimmel was suspended last week, Monday they announced he will be back on the air Tuesday night. I don’t get it, he hasn’t been funny for some time, his ratings are declining precipitously, he lost his company $16 million thus far in 2025. Who are the idiots? I don’t care about the guy one way or another, I do believe he is a fool for his relentless Trump bashing, but that was not the reason he was suspended, it was a business decision. In light of the decision to bring him back, I must assume there was a huge backlash from the leftists in our country. Oh well…
There was a memorial service for Charlie Kirk yesterday in Glendale, Arizona. The venue held 90,000 people, it was full and there were tens of thousands more outside who could not get in. This was a very spiritual gathering, praising God and Jesus Christ. It was attended by Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, Pete Hegseth, Tulsi Gabbard and many others in the administration, in addition to the thousands who have been positively affected by the short life of Charlie Kirk. My heart goes out to his wife, Erika, and their two beautiful children. I cannot imagine their grief and I pray that Jesus brings them the comfort and peace which they so richly deserve. What a tragedy. As I have said, we lost a great and very bright light in the world.
What is the reason for the political violence in our country? Radical leftists. The vast majority of them promote their Trump Derangement Syndrome by spewing non-truths about the president, which spills over into everything. “He is Hitler,” Really? In whose universe, and by what proof? None. “He is a fascist,” Really? By what provable actions? None. “He is a dictator,” Really? By what metric? There are none. “He is weaponizing the military,” Really? Because he is using the National Guard to clean up the crime ridden cities in our nation? Give me a break. Where is common sense? “He is a racist,” Really? What has he ever said or done that that is even remotely racist? Nothing. Most accusations are leftist propaganda. The problem with lies is that is once a non-truth is released into the psyche, it stays there, even when proven to be false.
It appears the government will “shut down” in the next couple days. Republicans have presented a clean Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government into November, the Democrats are demanding well over one trillion $ in additional spending, including extending subsidies for Obamacare, spending for healthcare for illegal aliens and a host of other nonsense. Let them shutdown the government, all essential services will continue, as far as I know from previous threats to shut it down. These socialists have not learned one thing from the beating they took last November. The President canceled a scheduled meeting with Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries after “seeing their unserious and ridiculous demands.” Complete idiots.
