May 2018 Empire State Manufacturing Survey Reports Business Activity Grew Strongly
The Federal Reserve Bank of New York released its May 2018 Empire State Manufacturing Survey and reports business activity grew strongly in New York State, according to firms responding to the survey. The headline general business conditions index climbed four points. The new orders index rose, and the shipments index was little changed.
May 2018 Manufacturing Business Outlook Survey Reports Region’s Growth in Manufacturing
The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia released its May 2018 Manufacturing Business Outlook Survey and reports a pickup in growth in the region’s manufacturing sector. The survey’s indexes for general activity, new orders, shipments and employment all increased from readings in April.
US Leading Economic Index Increased 0.4 Percentage Points in April
The US Leading Economic Index increased 0.4 percentage points in April, supported by broad-based component strength. Although the index’s six-month growth rate has moderated, economic growth should continue its uptrend.
Chicago Fed National Activity Index (CFNAI) Ticked Up in April
The Chicago Fed National Activity Index (CFNAI) ticked up to +0.34 in April from +0.32 in March and three of the four broad categories made positive contributions to the index in April. The index’s three month moving average (CFNAI-MA3) increased to +0.46 in April from +0.23 in March.
What do the numbers mean?
A zero value for the monthly index has been associated with the national economy expanding at its historical trend (average) rate of growth; negative values with below-average growth (in standard deviation units); and positive values with above-average growth.
Periods of economic expansion have historically been associated with values of the CFNAI-MA3 above -0.70 and the CFNAI Diffusion Index above -0.35. Conversely, periods of economic contraction have historically been associated with values of the CFNAI-MA3 below -0.70 and the CFNAI Diffusion Index below -0.35.
An increasing likelihood of a period of sustained increasing inflation has historically been associated with values of the CFNAI-MA3 above +0.70 more than two years into an economic expansion.
Similarly, a substantial likelihood of a period of sustained increasing inflation has historically been associated with values of the CFNAI-MA3 above +1.00 more than two years into an economic expansion.
US Drill Rigs Running Rose Last Week
The number of drill rigs running in the US rose by one last week, led by New Mexico, up three, to reach a more than three year high of 1,046 operating drill rigs. Meanwhile, Canadian drilling gained by four rigs on the week, to 83.
US Raw Steel Production Rose Last Week
US raw steel production rose by 1.6% last week as mills operated at an ACUR of 75.7%. in the corresponding week last year mills operated at an ACUR of 73.7%. Thus far this year mills have produced prox 35,000,000 tons compared to the prox 34,406,000 tons produced in the like period last year.
Another School Shooting …
Another school shooting, this time in Santa Fe, Texas. A 17-year-old kid murdered 9 fellow students and 1 teacher. Many more wounded. Of course, the gun nuts are screaming more gun control which is NOT the problem.
The problem is, folks, our youngsters. They are the ones committing these heinous acts. What is the problem with our kids? No accountability? Fractured family? Lack of morals? Lack of respect for themselves and others? Yes, to all of the above and more.
This is insidious leftism at work: in our schools they are making our children automatons, following the crowd blindly, preaching nonsense of liberalism and whatever other bullshit they can get away with. In our homes they teach the children not to obey their parents. To strike back at them. It has all become very twisted at this point.
And Then, Starbucks …
In the continuing saga of liberalism at Starbucks, they made a corporate decision to welcome anyone to use their restrooms and hang out in their café whether they make a purchase or not. How nice of them. Sometime later they had to make a qualification of their new rule: that people couldn’t sleep there or do drugs there or otherwise cause commotion…what a can of worms these idiots have opened…for themselves and their paying customers…all in the name of leftism and political correctness.
The NFL Anthem Policy
The NFL grew a ball and dictates ballplayers on the field must stand for the national anthem. Players who wish to disrespect this country and the men and women who fought and died to preserve the freedoms which afford them the opportunity to earn millions of dollars, can stay in the locker room during the National Anthem…and play with their peckers, which is all they do anyway.

US-North Korea Summit Cancelled
Rocketman and his henchmen have been threatening the USA with nuclear war, verbally abusing the vice president and threatening to pull out of the summit talks scheduled for next month. Ironically and properly, President Trump on Thursday, trumped the little fat man, called his bluff and cancelled the summit talks himself, for the reasons stated above. I am beyond happy that our president has the balls to call these fools out for their bullshit. We have been bowing down to rogue nations for so long, they believe they can get away with this crap. NOT…God Bless America.
