Purchases of capital equipment by US machine shops and other manufacturers fell 9.5% from June, but is still 20.1 percent higher than the July 2024 result. The strength of the July data drew the year-over-year total into positive territory for the first time in three-months.
For the January-July period, new orders now total $2.91 billion, which is 14.4% higher than the total for the same period in 2024. American Machinist
US raw steel production up from previous week
In the week ending September 6, 2025, US raw steel production was 1,795,000 net tons at an ACUR of 79.2 percent, up 1.5 percent from the previous week ending August 30, 2025.
Adjusted YTD production through September 6, 2025 was 61,461,000 net tons at an ACUR of 77.0 percent. That is up 1.9 percent from the 60,339,000 net tons during the same period last year.
NFIB Small Business Optimism Index rose in August
The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index rose half a point to 100.8 in August, the third consecutive month above its historical average of 98. Growing sales prospects and solid earnings appeared to be the driving force behind August’s improvement.
The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased
The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.4 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis in August, after rising 0.2 percent in July. Over the last twelve months, the all-items index increased 2.9 percent before seasonal adjustment.
US drill rigs running up from previous week
There were 537 drill rigs running in the US last week, up one rig from the previous week, down 45 rigs from one year ago. Meanwhile Canadian drillers opened 6 rigs, to 181, down 39 rigs from one year ago.

On Wednesday, Conservative activist, author, and CEO of “Turning Point, USA, Charlie Kirk, was shot in the neck at Utah Valley University. As of 4pm est, there is no word on his condition. He was married in 2021, he and his wife have two young children. Is this what we have come to in the USA? They have a suspect in custody. I am sick and tired of the so called “democrats” (the furthest thing from what they are). Can anyone tell me the last time a “democrat” was shot or harmed by a conservative? To my recollections, the answer would be “never.”

If you cannot see that the so-called “democratic” party has become a haven for violent offenders, criminals, rapists, law breakers, thieves, arsonists and whatever other criminal element you care to name, you are either stupid, dumb, uneducated, clueless, obstinately stubborn. I don’t know how much harder you need to be hit in the head. These people are out to ruin the USA, they don’t give a shit about anyone but themselves. I am so upset by the assassination of Charlie Kirk and further, by the behavior of the left after he fact. What a bunch of losers.
In congress Wednesday, the leftists refused to give a moment of silent prayer for Charlie Kirk. How low can they go? Pretty low, I guess.
On Friday morning, President Trump stated they a very confident they have the Charlie Kirk assassin in custody. His name is Tyler Robinson, age 22, was turned in by his father.
