Summit Steel Corporation turns forty-one years old today, May 1, 2026. Though I have backed off quite a bit, my son, Jason, is now the president and doing a great job running the business. I also had the pleasure of working with my father, Al Bushman, who afforded me the opportunity to learn steel sales and work alongside him. It is a proud moment for me.

Texas manufacturing output growth accelerated in April

The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas released its April 2026 Texas Manufacturing Survey results and reports Texas manufacturing output growth accelerated in April, according to executives responding to the survey. The production index, a key measure of state manufacturing conditions, jumped 12 points, a reading suggestive of above average output expansion. Other measures also showed signs of faster growth this month.

Perceptions of broader business conditions were mixed. The general business activity index fell 2 points, however the company outlook index rebounded into positive territory.
Expectations are for increased manufacturing activity six months from now.

Fifth District Manufacturing Survey reports manufacturing activity changed little in April

The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond released it Fifth District Manufacturing Survey results and reports manufacturing activity changed little in April. The composite manufacturing index inched up to 3 in April from 0 in March. Two of its three component indexes rose in April: new orders to 8 from 4, and employment to 0 from -2.

The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index edged up by 0.6 points in April, but overall was little changed from last month.

US raw steel production down from previous week

In the week ending April 25, 2026, US raw steel production was 1,830,000 net tons at an ACUR of 79.3 percent, down 1.0 percent from the previous week ending April 18, 2026.
Adjusted YTD production through April 25, 2026 was 29,549,000 net tons at an ACUR of 77.8 percent.

Jay Powell held interest rates steady Wednesday in his last Fed meeting as head of the Federal Reserve Bank.

The advance estimate of first quarter 2026 GDP came in at 2.0 percent, according to the release by the US Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), the first of three estimates for the quarter.

US drill rigs running up from previous week

There were 547 drill rigs running in the US on May 1, 2026, up three rigs from the previous week, down thirty-seven rigs from one year ago. Canadian drillers closed seven rigs, to 123, down seven rigs from the prior week, up three rigs from one year ago.

A fourth attempt was made on the President’s life last weekend at the Correspondents Gala at the Washington Hilton, same venue Ronald Regan was shot at. The shooter was a teacher, highly educated who left a manifesto outlining his plans. It is easy to see that he was brainwashed by left wing propaganda. Read it. He will spend the rest of his life behind bars. Personally, I think it is a travesty that we have to house, feed, clothe, and provide medical care for the remainder of his life. He is undeserving of our care.
Of course, Democrats are saying it was staged. What consummate losers they are.
The question is, how did he check into the Washington Hilton with a shotgun, a pistol, a semi-auto pistol, purchase a ticket to the gala, all undetected by the Secret Service? How does this happen? Who exactly is in charge of security and why do they still have a job? The President and First Lady however, were unharmed, and that IS their main function.

And they want to run the country? Not really, they just want the power, so they can do as they please. They don’t give a shit about the country or her citizens. If they had any ideas, you would be hearing them, but they do not. What will they do when Trump is out of office? Think about that for a moment. They offer nothing of value.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla of England arrived in the USA on Monday for a four-day visit to commemorate America turning 250 years old. The last time a member of the royal family led an event in the US was in 1939, held by King George VI. Of course, they started with tea…

The UN has appointed Iran as one of the Vice Presidents of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Conference. What? This is not a joke, though it should be.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has said it would leave OPEC. The UAE is the third biggest producer in OPEC, this will deal a heavy blow to the organization.

On Thursday the senate passed a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security and all involved entities except ICE, which has previously been funded  through 2029. 75 days these patriots worked without pay, thank you, Democrats for being utterly useless to our country and to your voters. What a joke they are.
