Inflation is Still High, but It Has Come Down
Inflation is still high, at over two times the Fed target of 2 percent, but it has come down from 9 percent. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.4 percent in April, on a seasonally adjusted basis, after increasing 0.1 percent in March, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported this week. Over the last twelve months, the all-items index increased 4.9 percent before seasonal adjustment.
Small Business Optimism Index Fell to Lowest Reading Since Early 2013
The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Small Business Optimism Index fell to 89 in April, the lowest reading since early 2013. While owners are becoming more pessimistic, April’s report should help allay concerns that credit is becoming completely inaccessible for small business.” Wells Fargo
US Raw Steel Production Down from Previous Week
In the week ending May 6, 2023, US raw steel production was 1,712,000 net tons at an ACUR of 76.1 percent, down 0.2 percent from the previous week.
US Drill Rigs Running Down from Previous Week
There were 748 drill rigs running in the US last week, down 7 rigs from the previous week, up 43 rigs from one year ago. Canadian drillers had no change from the previous week.
The Fed last Wednesday raised short-term interest rates by .25 point.

On Wednesday the House Oversight Committee presented compelling evidence regarding the corruption of the Biden family. Why articles of impeachment have not yet been issued is a telling sign of the corruption within the Democrat party, really, all of Washington, or all of politics. All those in the Biden family, and their associates, who received money through the shell game should be prosecuted and thrown in jail.
